Dolgarrog Hydro Electric Power Station in North Wales received a £15 million replacement programme. 1200 metres of the 100 year old Coedty pipeline was replaced with new 2 metre diameter polyurethane coated pipes. These pipes were manufactured and coated in Spain, and shipped to the Port of Liverpool.
From the Port of Liverpool the pipes were loaded onto trailers for ascent up an extremely steep mountain on narrow lanes. Once stored in a lay down area these pipes were welded in trenches from Coedty Dam to Marble Arch.
The completed pipeline has a capacity of up to 15 megawatts (MW), enough to supply the domestic needs of more than 5,000 households.
